How to download and install

  1. Select your platform from the drop-down list above and click Download Now.
  2. Choose Run this program from its current location and click OK.
  3. Click Yes if asked whether you would like to install and run Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.01 and Internet Tools.
  4. Accept the License Agreement and click Next to begin the installation process.


Read This First

Download the latest release of Internet Explorer 4.01 for your operating system. There are no Service Pack releases available for Internet Explorer 4.01 for computers running Windows 3.1, Windows NT 3.51, or UNIX (Solaris or HP-UX). To minimize exposure to known security issues, Microsoft recommends that you install Internet Explorer 5.

System Requirements
To install Internet Explorer 4.01, your computer must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Sparcstation 2 or greater for Solaris
  • HP 9000 Enterprise Server, HP 9000 Workstation or HP Visualize Workstation for HP-UX
  • 486 processor for Windows
  • 32 megabytes (MB) of random access memory (RAM) (64 MB recommended) for Solaris
  • 64 MB RAM (96 MB recommended) for HP-UX
  • 16 MB RAM for Windows
  • 65 MB disk space for Solaris
  • 72 MB disk space for HP-UX
  • 34-74 MB disk space for Windows (depending on add-on components selected)

How to use
Once installation is complete, open Internet Explorer.

How to uninstall

  1. Make sure Internet Explorer is not running.
  2. Uninstall information for your platform can be found in one of the following locations:
    • Notes for Windows computers
    • Notes for UNIX computers
