How to download and install

  1. Select your platform from the drop-down list above and click Download Now.
  2. Choose Run this program from its current location and click OK.
  3. Click Yes if asked whether you would like to install and run Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.01 Service Pack 2.
  4. Accept the License Agreement and click Next to begin the installation process.


Read This First

Internet Explorer 4.01 with Service Pack 2 (SP2) addresses top issues reported to Microsoft Technical Support regarding Internet Explorer 4.01 and includes all security updates which have been released since Service Pack 1.

Note Users running Internet Explorer 5 or later do not need Internet Explorer 4.01 SP2.

System Requirements
To install Internet Explorer 4.01 Service Pack 2, your computer must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • 486 processor for Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows NT 4.0 (x86 or Compaq DIGITAL Alpha) If running Windows NT 4.0, Service Pack 3 or later must be installed.
  • 16 MB RAM for Windows 95 and Windows 98
  • 24 MB RAM for Windows NT 4.0
  • 34-74 MB disk space (depending on add-on components selected)
Service Pack 2 is not available for computers running Windows 3.1, Windows NT 3.51, or UNIX (Solaris or HP-UX).

How to use
Once installation is complete, open Internet Explorer.

How to uninstall

  1. Click Start, point to Settings and click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  3. Select Internet Explorer 4.01 and click Add/Remove to uninstall.
