Internet Explorer 5 with Outlook Express

Important Notes
If you get lost along the way, you can review the detailed instructions by clicking on the link at the bottom of the page. When you're finished, remember to register the software.

Internet Explorer 5 is the browser optimized to save you time on the things you do most often on the Web. Enhancements to search, favorites and history make it much simpler to find and organize information anywhere on the Web. Built-in intelligence automates the most common Web tasks to save you time. And you enjoy the freedom of choice to use the Web the way you want.

How to download and install
  1. On the previous page, click the download link to begin downloading the ie5setup program.
  2. Make the ie5setup program executable, eg. 'chmod +x ie5setup'.
  3. Run the setup program: './ie5setup'.
  4. When Setup prompts you for an installation directory, accept the default directory or type in a new directory path. (Note that installing to the default directory, /usr/local/microsoft, may require root access.)
To use
After Internet Explorer 5 is installed, you can start the browser by running "(installation directory)/bin/iexplorer". You can start Outlook Express by running "(installation directory)/bin/oexpress".

How to uninstall

  1. You must remove the current installation directory, for example, 'rm-rf <Installation Directory> .'
  2. Additionally, there is a directory named ".microsoft" in the home directory for each user account that has run Internet Explorer at least once. This directory may also be deleted if the user wishes to remove all personal settings for Internet Explorer (including cookies, history and favorites).
  3. If you implemented CDE integration as explained in the product readme, you should remove it by deleting the "IE.dt" file from the system or user directory.

Support Policy
Internet Explorer 5 for Solaris with Outlook Express is supported through self-help services and newsgroups on Microsoft's Web site, located at http://support.microsoft.com/support. See the product readme for more details.
