Installing Internet Explorer 5
: Whether you choose to install over the Internet or
to download the installation files to your hard disk,
the Setup files are copied to your hard disk. This is so
you can reinstall more quickly if you need to.
If you want to reclaim the disk
space, you can remove the Setup directory by
double-clicking the Add/Remove Programs icon in Control
Panel and then clicking Internet Explorer 5 Setup Files.
You cannot install Internet
Explorer 5 to or run it from a network drive. However,
you can download it to a network drive. To do this, you
must map the network drive to a drive letter on your
computer. You cannot download Internet Explorer 5 to a
UNC path.
If there is a chance you may
uninstall Internet Explorer 5 and restore to a prior
install of Internet Explorer 4.x or higher, we recommend
you create a backup copy of Loadwc.exe, found in the
\Windows\System folder, before installing Internet
Explorer 5. Note: When you
uninstall Internet Explorer 5, Loadwc.exe. is not saved
and restored. To restore Loadwc.exe version 4.0, copy
the backup version of the file to the \Windows\system
folder, and choose to overwrite the newer version when
prompted.
International users: Copying files onto
non-English operating systems may be interrupted by a
dialog box telling you about a language version conflict
with a component. Click Yes
at this dialog box to continue copying files. Note: The version conflict dialog box may
be hidden behind another open window. If you notice that
the file copy has stopped for several minutes (that is,
if the installation window's Progress bar has stopped
advancing), try to locate the dialog box by pressing
Alt+Tab one or more times.
Arabic and Hebrew users: Localized Arabic/Hebrew Internet Explorer 5 is designed for localized Arabic and Hebrew Windows 98 platforms exclusively. Users of enabled Arabic/Hebrew Windows 98, as well as localized or enabled Windows 95 or Windows NT4, should install English Internet Explorer 5.
Anti-Virus Software Users: Please note that
some anti-virus software programs may interfere with the
download and should be disabled while installing
Internet Explorer.
